Powell Mrs. Carrie Whitley Powell, 82, of Suffolk, died Sunday, Sept 21, 1986, at home. A native of Southampton County, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Whitley and Ethel [sic; Affa] Duke Whitley, and wife of the late L.C. Powell, Jr. [sic; Sr.] Survivors include one son, L.C. Powell, Jr., of Florida, and seven grandchildren. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m., graveside at Liberty Spring Christian Church Cemetery by the Rev. O.R. Hardy. Memorial donations may be sent to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Hill-Underwood Funeral Home is in charge.
