All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Funeral Tomorrow For Mrs. Sarah Piland Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Ophelia Holland Piland, 84, who died unexpectedly at her home, 109 Linden Avenue, Saturday, will be conducted Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the I.O. Hill and Company Funeral Home. She was the wife of the late George A. Piland and daughter of the late Solomon and Mary V. Holland of Nansemond County. She was a member of the Suffolk Christian Church. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. C.T. Parker of Holland; and Mrs. W.T. Allen, Jr., and Mrs. Leo C. Simons of Norfolk; and Mrs. W.D. Johnson of Franklin; two sons, Sollie A. Piland of Holland and Rowland S. Piland of Suffolk. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Amos Piland, and Mrs. Richard Howell of Holland and Mrs. Joseph W. Halford of Suffolk; a brother, Rufus Holland of Holland; nineteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; also a number of nieces and nephews. Officiating will be the Reverend George D. Alley and the Reverend R.E. Brittle. Burial will be in the Holland Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** Rites Held Tuesday For Mrs. Sarah Piland Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Ophelia Piland were conducted yesterday at the Hill Funeral Home by the Rev. R.E. Brittle, pastor of Bethlehem Christian Church, and the Rev. George P. Alley, pastor of the Suffolk Christian Church. Reverend Alley read "Now The Laborers Task Is O'er" and Mrs. George Alley and Mrs. Marvin Hall accompanied by Mrs. Webb Pinner sang "Abide With Me" and "The Old Rugged Cross." The pall was of red roses, white carnations and white stock. Burial was in the Holland Cemetery. Pallbearers were W.J. Earley, C.E. Piland, Richard Howell, Raleigh T. Piland, Allen Piland, Pallie B. Piland, R. Townie Piland and William E. Moore.
