George S. Lightner, pastor of Main Street Methodist Church, and the Rev. J.C. Mitchell, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Panton, 88, died Monday at noon at her home 212½ Pearl St. after a long illness. She was a native of Iowa but had spent most of her life in Southampton County and Suffolk. She was the widow of Mathew John Panton and daughter of Edward [sic; Edwin*] and Mrs. Mary Ricks of Murfreesboro, N.C. She was a member of the High Street Methodist Church of Franklin. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lillian P. Bunch and Mrs. Elizabeth P. Delucia, both of the home, and Mrs. Callie P. Knight of Tampa, Fla.; one son, J. Fred Panton of Suffolk; two sisters, Mrs. Maggie Thompson of Courtland and Mrs. Ursula Cook of Sutherland, Va.; five brothers, Willie Ricks of Camden, N.C., Roy Ricks of Branchville, Crockett Ricks of Jarratt, Reuben Ricks of Jacksonville, Fla., Herbert Ricks of Richmond; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. ****************************************************************************** MARTHA "MATTIE" RICKS PANTON SUFFOLK - Mrs. Mattie Ricks Panton, 88, died Monday at noon at her home 212½ Pearl St. after a long illness.
