Hill's Funeral services for Matthew J. Panton were conducted at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon at Hill's Funeral Home with the Rev. Graham Chesney and the Rev. J. Lester Lane officiating. During the service, a quartet comprised of Mrs. Claudia Jacobs, Mrs. Robert Solomon, Byrum Cutchins and M.O. Spence, accompanied by Mrs. Julian Goodwin, rendered "Old Rugged Cross" and "Asleep in Jesus." A pall of Easter lilies, pink carnations, gardenias and white stock covered the casket. Pallbearers were S.T. Godbey, Harry Panton. Glen Panton, Richard Panton, Charlie Panton, Fowler Panton, Robert Knight and Preston Brockwell. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family. Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** MATTHEW J. PANTON Matthew J. Panton, 90, died Monday night, March 15, at 7:15 o'clock at the home of his son, J. Fred Panton, 214½ Morgan Street, Suffolk, after a week of illness. Mr. Panton was for many years a resident of this county, having lived both in Branchville and in Franklin. He was a brother of the late William Panton and an uncle of John H. Panton of Franklin. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Martha R. Panton; three daughters, Mrs. W.A. Bunch of Miami, Fla., Mrs. R.J. Knight of Tampa, Fla., and Mrs. Elizabeth DeLucia of Suffolk; a son, J. Fred Panton of Suffolk; a brother, Arthur Panton of Ore Bank, Buckingham County; and eight grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Panton were conducted from the Hill Funeral Home, Suffolk, on Wednesday afternoon at three o'clock, followed by burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
