All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ BOY, 14, IS DROWNED IN NANSEMOND RIVER SUFFOLK, VA., Aug. 2. - Fillmore Pinner, the 14-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Pinner of this city, was drowned sometime late this afternoon in Nansemond River, off the banks at Hurff's Landing. The boy, who is the son of one of the prominent families of the city, failed to come home to supper. A search was instituted and later his clothes were found on the river bank. Scores of persons are draging the river tonight in a search for the body. ****************************************************************************** USE DYNAMITE TO FIND BODY OF DROWNED BOY SUFFOLK, VA., Aug. 4. - After a search of nearly twenty-four hours and using dynamite as last resort to find the body of 12-year-old Fillmore Pinner, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. M.F. Pinner, of this city, the body came to the surface of Nansmond River, not twenty-five feet from the scene of the probable drowning. The little boy with several others went to Hurffs Beach on the Nansemond, Tuesday afternoon for a swim. Missed from home at supper time, a search was made and the boy's clothes were found near the edge of the stream where the boys had gone for their swim. Millard Fillmore PINNER, Jr., son of M.F.
