Pierce, aged 70, died at his home 326 Park avenue, Tuesday night at 10 o’clock after a long illness. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Martha J. Pierce, four daughters, and two sons, Mrs. J.C. Judkins, Mrs. E.J. Sitterson and Mrs. Katie Radford; Mrs. R.L. Doughtie, all of Suffolk, J.C. Pierce of Suffolk and G.T. Pierce of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; eighteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Charlie Jernigan of Franklin, one brother, J.E. Pierce, of Drum Hill, N.C., and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the residence conducted by the Rev. R.E. Brittle. Interment will be made in Cedar Hill cemetery. ****************************************************************************** FUNERALS J. R. PIERCE Funeral services for J.R. Pierce were held Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the residence on Carolina avenue, conducted by the Rev. R.E. Brittle and the Rev. T.C. Synan. Members of Bethlehem Christian church choir, accompanied by Miss Mary Jones, sang the hymns "Sometime We’ll Understand," "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Rock of Ages." There were many handsome floral tributes. The casket was covered with a double spray of roses and Easter lilies. Active Pallbearers were: Ernest Sitterson, Morris Pierce, Linwood Judkins, Theron Judkins, Linwood Richards, Diaz McCotter, Richard Lassiter, John Pierce. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family. Interment was made in Cedar Hill cemetery.
