Pierce, 68 years of age, of Harrell Siding, Cherry Grove, was found dead at his home about 11 o’clock yesterday. Dr. Challis H. Dawson, county coroner, who viewed the body, said Pierce had a gunshot wounds in the right eye in the head. Nansemond County authorities, who were called to investigate, confirmed that the fatal wounds were self- inflicted. Pierce is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rosa Pierce; two stepchildren, Mrs. J.A. King and Wallace Baines, both of Nansemond County; two sisters, Mrs. Julius Baines, of Portsmouth; Mrs. J.B. Voight, of Norfolk and one brother, Claude W. Pierce, of Suffolk. Funeral services will be conducted at I.O. Hill and Company Funeral Home at 3 p.m. tomorrow by the Reverend R.E. Brittle. The place of burial will be announced later.
