He was retired from US Department of Agriculture, a member of Liberty Spring Christian Church, Men's Bible Class, Liberty Spring Ruritan Club, and a member of the VASCO. He was the son of James Thomas and Mrs. Folly [sic; James L. and Sally] Copeland Pierce of Nansemood County and the husband of Mrs. Allie Massey Pierce. Besides his widow, surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Martha Stutz and Miss Rebecca Lee Pierce, both of Nansemond County; two sons, James Franklin Pierce of Nansemond County and Paul Vernon Massey of Suffolk, and six grandchildren. The Rev. R.A. [sic; R.E.] Brittle and the Rev. H. Raymond Phelps will conduct the 3 p.m. service Tuesday. The body will leave I.O.
