FUNERAL SERVICE FOR T. L. [sic; T. A.] PEARCE TO BE HELD HERE 

Long Resident of Suffolk, Dies In Norfolk Hospital 

  Funeral services for Thomas Arthur Pearce, 82, who died at a Norfolk 
hospital last night after an illness of two months duration, will be conducted 
at First Baptist church Thursday at 3:30 p.m., by the Rev. Dr. H.J. Goodwin, 
assisted by the Rev. J.S. Dempsey, of Hertford, N.C.  Burial will be in Cedar 
Hill cemetery. [sic*] 

  Long a resident of Suffolk and widely known in this section of Virginia and 
in Northeastern North Carolina, Mr. Pearce for the past five [years] had 
resided at Hertford, where he was manager of the Grocery Sales Corporation. 
In Suffolk he had been connected for many years with the Nansemond Grocery 
Company. 

  A native of Gates County, N.C., and son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas 
Aaron Pearce, Mr. Pearce moved to Suffolk as a young man to engage in 
business. 

  Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ursie Powell Winborne Pearce; a step-daughter, 
Mrs. Oscar Bunch, of Portsmouth; two sisters, Mrs. R. Samuel Holland, of 
Suffolk, and Mrs. Rebecca E. Williford, of Portsmouth; an aunt, Mrs. Walter 
Beale, of Franklin, and several nieces and nephews.  Active pall-bearers at 
the final rites tomorrow will be M.A. Cross, Harry Cross, George Vanderslice, 
H.C. Holland, Claude Turner, P.G. Everett and Oscar Nance.  Honorary pall-
bearers will include William Hardcastle, Rufus Riddick, Vivian Darden, Douglas 
Darden, Jake Darden, Carroll Berry, J.D. Prichard, E. Perry, L.F. Carter, Dr. 
I.A. Ward, Dr. T.A. Cox, Dr. Carlton Davenport, Josh Jessup, Lee Babb, Thomas 
Babb, L.N. Hollowell, Charles Whedbee, Hillary Winslow, Herman Winslow, Cook 
Winslow, Emmett Winslow and James Copeland, all of Hertford, and Chester A. 
Ragsdale, W.S. Cross, Lem Norfleet, W.C. Morgan, Reginald Tucker, John Butler, 
J.S. Davis, Walter Eley, E.E. Weaver, Lee Lindley, A.V. Green, William Pearce, 
Fred Winter, Paul Kennedy, Fritz Gardner, Greydon Gray and J.E. Cutchins.

   but she is buried with Thomas.
