All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ SARAH ANTOINETTE PARKER Miss Sarah Parker Died Yesterday Miss Sarah Antionette Parker, a former resident of Suffolk, died at the home of her sister, Mrs. Nathaniel Burnley, in Charlottesville, yesterday afternoon at two o'clock after an illness of several months. Mrs. Parker, who taught in the Suffolk Public Schools for thirty years, had made her home with her sister in Charlottesville since her retirement. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Susan Ellen Daughtrey Parker of Southampton County. Besides her sister, she is survived by five brothers: Thomas L., C.C., Harvey O., Luther W., and Joseph S. Parker; several nieces and nephews. The body will be brought to Suffolk and taken to the I.O. Hill and Company Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by the Rev. J. Lester Lane. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** DEATH OF MISS NETTIE PARKER Miss Sarah Antoinette Parker, 69, a native of former resident of Franklin, died at two o'clock Thursday afternoon, March 4, at the home of her sister, Mrs. Nathaniel Burnley, in Charlottesville after an illness of several months. Miss Nettie, as she was known to numerous friends in Franklin, was born in this town on July 13, 1878, the daughter of the late Charles and Susan Ellen Daughtrey Parker. She taught in the public schools of Suffolk for thirty years, retiring in 1929 and returning to Franklin to make her home with her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas L. Parker. Since 1942 she had been making her home in Charlottesville with her sister, Mrs. Burnley. Besides her sister, she is survived by five brothers, Thomas L. Parker of Franklin, Clifton C. Parker of Ridgeland, S.C., Harvey O. Parker of Washington, D.C., Luther W. Parker of Sellers, S.C. and Joseph S. Parker of Richmond, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Miss Parker were conducted Saturday afternoon at two o'clock at the I.O. Hill Funeral Home in Suffolk, with Rev. J. Lester Lane, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating, assisted by Rev. R.D. Stephenson of Portsmouth. During the services Mrs. Julian Goodwin played "Abide With Me" and "Going Home." The pall was of white snapdragons, stock and white carnations. Burial was in the family plot in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk, the pallbearers being J.J. Finley, Jr., Roger Beale, James Beale, Warren Beale, Dr. Wood Campbell, P.M. Burton, James Butler and John Vincent.
