Parker Dies Unexpectedly John (Johnnie) Ervin Parker, of 115 North St., an employee of I.O. Hill and Company for the past 56 years, died unexpectedly today at 6:45 a.m. at the Obici Memorial Hospital. He was 70 years old. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Hill Funeral Home by the Rev. John C. Mitchell, pastor of the First Baptist Church and the Rev. R.E. Brittle, pastor of Bethlehem Christian Church. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Mr. Parker started to work for I.O. Hill and Company Nov. 20, 1904, when he was only 14 years old, and has worked for the firm continuously since that time. A native of Northampton County, he has lived in Suffolk most of his life. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and son of the late John Willie Parker and Georgie Anna Bridges Parker of Northampton County and husband of the late Mrs. Emma Phea Porter Parker of Suffolk. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Robert A. Perry of Suffolk and Mrs. Maurice C. Belote of Norfolk; a sister, Mrs. Lena P. Duke of Norfolk; four grandchildren, Miss Celeste Parker and John Shelden Parker of Port Charlotte, Fla., Janice Rhea Perry of Suffolk and Mary Ruth Belote of Norfolk, and several nieces and nephews. PARKER ****************************************************************************** John Ervin Parker Buried Here Sunday Funeral services for John Ervin Parker, who died Friday, were conducted Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Hill Funeral Home by the Rev. John C. Mitchell, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Mr. Mitchell read two poems, "Crossing the Bar" and "Be still." Mrs. J. Webb Pinner, Jr., organist, played two hymns "Sunrise" and "My Faith Looks Up To Thee." The casket was covered with a pall of red carnations and Easter lilies. Pallbearers were Blackwell Cross, Irving Wilkins, S.D. Ellis, Sydney F. Harrell, Herbert Underwood, Stanley Rogers, Sam Chilton, Sr., Dr. Charles Steel, Ben Holland and R.W. Woodward. Tidewater funeral directors and friends were honorary pallbearers.
