William A. Pruitt 

  HOPEWELL -- William Arthur Pruitt, 81, of 300 Pickett St., died Sunday 
morning in a hospital. 

  A native of Ashe County, N.C., he was the husband of Mrs. Valia Marshall 
Pruett [sic; Pruitt]. 

  He was retired from Civil Service and was a charter member of Powers 
Memorial Baptist Church. 

  He was a graduate of North Carolina State College. 

  Besides his widow, surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Robert M. Keith of 
Suffolk; three brothers, Lee A. Pruitt of Mountain Home, Ark., L.M. Pruitt 
and L.N. Pruitt of Bluefield, W. Va.; a granddaughter; and two great-
grandchildren.  The body was taken to Gould Funeral Home, where a funeral 
service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Coley Rock of Powers 
Memorial Baptist Church.  Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk.

His parents are buried in Buckhorn Baptist Church Cemetery, Como, 
   Hertford Co., NC.
