BENJAMIN GODWIN PORTER 

  PORTER. - At the residence of his son, T.E. Porter, 711 Thirty-fourth 
street, Thursday, March 9, 1916, at 1 o'clock a.m., BENJAMIN G. PORTER, SR., 
in the 72d year of his age. 

  The remains will be forwarded to Holland, Va., via Southern Railway, FRIDAY 
MORNING, March 10, at 8 o'clock, for funeral from the Christian church at 11 
a.m.  Friends of the family invited to attend.                           1t

        BENJAMIN PORTER 

  Suffolk, March 10. - This morning at the Holland Christian church, the 
funeral services of the late Benjamin Porter, who died at the home of his son, 
Thomas Porter, in Norfolk, were held, Rev. Mr. Black being assisted in 
conducting the services by Rev. Dr. Lawless and Rev. Dr. I.W. Johnson.  The 
deceased is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Frank Savage, Mrs. I.P Byrd and 
Mrs. Annie G. Daughtrey; three sons, B.G. Porter, Jr., Robert Porter and 
Thomas Porter.  The interment was made in the church cemetery.

D.Cert. 7327 (Norfolk #2002) gives his father as Benjamin; the informant was 
   his son T.E. 

Rather, he was the son of Abram & Mariana C. (RODGERS) PORTER. 

He served as First Sergeant of Co. K, 41st VA Infantry. 

He 1m. ca. 1866 Sarah M. (EVERETT) PORTER, daughter of Thomas & Cherry; 
   Sarah d. 1 Nov 1873. 

He 2m. 15 Dec 1875 Eugenia Marion HOLLAND, daughter of Rev. Robert Howell & 
   Margaret Rebecca (O'BERRY) HOLLAND.  Her obit ("Virginian-Pilot,"
