Robert E. Roberts Dies in County 

  Robert Edward Roberts, 81 years of age, a lifelong resident of Nansemond 
County, died at 11:45 last night at his home near Lake Cohoon, following a 
long illness.  He was a member of Western Branch Baptist church. 

  He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ava Pruden Roberts; one daughter, Mrs. 
Harry L. Joyner; two grandchildren, Harry Lee Joyner Jr. and William Edward 
Joyner; one great-granddaughter, Judy Ann Joyner; one sister, Mrs. J.A. 
Whitlock; four brothers, C.A. Roberts, Portsmouth; W.J. Roberts, Jacksonville, 
Florida; S.E. and H.P. Roberts, Nansemond County; a number of nieces and 
nephews. 

  The body is now at the funeral home of I.O. Hill and company, where funeral 
services will be conducted at 3 p.m., Sunday by the Rev. R.E. Brittle, pastor 
of Bethlehem Christian church, and the Rev. W.V. Carroll, pastor of Western 
Branch Baptist church.  Interment will be in Bethlehem cemetery.

His father was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in Co. A,
