RAIFORD Henry William Raiford, 53, died Monday at 11:45 a.m. in his home on Route 3. A native of Southampton County, he was a member of Trinity Christian Church, Suffolk. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was the husband of Mrs. Thelma Pope Raiford and a son of the late Kenneth Henry and Mrs. Eula Baton [sic; Beaton] Raiford. He was a pipefitter at St. Juliens Creek Naval Ammunition Depot. Besides his widow, surviving are a daughter, Miss Cynthia Sue Raiford, and a son, Charlie Kenneth Raiford, both of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Holt of Franklin and Mrs. Joseph Simmons of Selma, N.C.; a brother, John J. Raiford of Portsmouth; and a half brother, Emerson Raiford of Maysville, N.C. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in I.O. Hill & Co. Funeral Home by the Rev. Earl J. Spring and Dr. R.E. Brittle. Weaver, Hayes Harrell, Carroll Riddick, G. Garland Coble, Garland A. Holland and E.R. Rodgers.
