All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Carlos Rose, 68, Dies At Home; Funeral Monday Funeral services for Carlos Frank Rose, 68, who died unexpectedly Saturday morning at 6 a.m. at his home, 400 Central Avenue, will be held Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the I.O. Hill and Company Funeral Home. The Rev. J.C. Mitchell, pastor of the First Baptist Church, and Dr. R.E. Brittle, minister of the Bethlehem Christian Church, will officiate at the services. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Mr. Rose was a son of the late Jimmy Rose and Barshie Ann Daughtrey Rose, of Southampton County. He was a native of Southampton County but had lived in Suffolk for the past 50 years. For 48 years he had worked in the woodworking shop at the Benthall Machine Company. He was a member of the Suffolk Volunteer Fire Department, where he had served as a volunteer fireman for the past 46 years. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lillie Howell [sic; Powell] Rose, of Suffolk; four daughters, Mrs. Walter E. Barton, of Windsor; Mrs. J. Woodrow Salmon, Mrs Frank S. Burns and Mrs. Foy S. Smith, all of Suffolk; one sister, Mrs. Jack R. Little, of Suffolk; 11 grandchildren; two great grandchildren and a number [of nieces and nephews.] ****************************************************************************** Funeral Monday For Carlos Rose Funeral services for Carlos Frank Rose, who died Saturday, were conducted Monday at 4 p.m. at the Hill Funeral Home by the Rev. J.C. Mitchell, pastor of the First Baptist Church, and the Rev. R.E. Brittle, pastor of Bethlehem Christian Church. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Miss Carmenette Peele sank "Sunrise." Miss Peele and Mrs. Vernon Spivey sang the hymn "Tell Mother I'll Be There." They were acompanied at the organ by Mrs. J. Webb Pinner Jr. The casket was covered with a pall of red roses, white carnations and baby's breath. Pallbearers were E.R. Wyatt, Marvin Williams, O.R. Harrell, B.B. Riddick, Thomas White, A.T. Dunn, J.P. Gatling, and A.D. Holland. Members of the Suffolk Fire Department and intimate friends served as honorary pallbearers.
