Harold O. Russell, who was stationed with the U.S. Army in England, was received Saturday by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Russell, Sr., Holladay Street, in a telegram from the Adjutant General of the U.S. Army. Russell, who was with the Eighth Army Air Force, died August 7 from natural causes. His body will arrive in Suffolk at a later date for burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Besides his parents, Russell is survived by a brother, Tech. Sergeant Robert L. Russell, of Fort Knox, Ky., four sisters, Mrs. Virginia Edwards, Newsoms, Mrs. Phillis Chester, and Mrs. Eleanor Pitner, of Portsmouth, and Mrs. Carolyn Asbell, Suffolk. ****************************************************************************** PFC. HAROLD O. RUSSELL FORMER COUNTY BOY IS DEAD IN ENGLAND Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee Russell of Suffolk have been notified by the War Department of the death of their son, Pfc. Harold O. Russell, who died August 7, in England of an illness. The body of Pfc. Russell is being returned to the United States and will arrive here in about two weeks, when it will be taken to I.O. Hill and Company Funeral Home, Suffolk, for funeral services. Pfc. Russell was 23 years of age and enlisted in October, 1942, and had been overseas for three years. He attended Courtland High School and was a member of Sebrell Methodist Church. In November, 1945, he re-enlisted in the U.S. Army in England. Surviving in addition to his parents, are four sisters, Mrs. Virginia Edwards of Newsoms, Mrs. Phyllis Chester and Mrs. Eleanor Pitner of Portsmouth and Mrs. Carolyn Asbell of Suffolk; one brother, Technical Sergeant Robert Russell, U.S. Army of Fort Knox, Ky., and a nephew and six nieces. Announcement of funeral arrangements will be made when the body arrives in Suffolk. ****************************************************************************** RUSSELL RITES TO BE SATURDAY Soldier to Have Military Funeral Funeral services for Pfc. Harold Russell, U.S. Army, who died of illness in Tidewater, England, will be held at 3 p.m. tomorrow at the Hill Funeral Home with Dr. Samuel T. Habel officiating. The body arrived in Norfolk today and has been brought to the Hill Funeral Home, escorted by Pfc. Carl Jackson of the Brooklyn Army Base. Russell is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Russell, 259 Holiday [sic; Holladay] street; four sisters, Mrs. Charles Chester and Mrs. W.R. Pitner, Portsmouth, Mrs. Virginia Edwards, of Newsoms, and Mrs. Carolyn Aswell [sic; Asbell], Suffolk and one brother, Robert L. Russell, Jr., Savannah, Ga. Military rites will be conducted at the grave. ****************************************************************************** RUSSELL RITES HELD SUNDAY Military Burial Held at Grave Last rites for Pfc. Harold Russell, U.S. Army, who died in Tidworth, England, were conducted Saturday afternoon at the Hill Funeral Home by Dr. S.T. Habel. Active pallbearers were Sergeant Richard C. Larson, Sergeant Cletus Richmond, Corporal Robert Tomlinson, Pfc. William I. Cooper, Pfc. George Herbst and Pfc. Henry Kursola. At the grave in Cedar Hill Cemetery burial was with military honors, with a firing squad and taps blown by Bugler Benno S. Friedman. The pallbearers, firing squad and bugler were all members of Organization 714 Railway Operating Battalion, Fort Eustis, add were under the command of Lt. Anthony Bruno. The casket was covered with an American flag, which was replaced with a pall of pink gladioli.
