Archibald Allen Riddick, 82, one of Suffolk's oldest and most esteemed citizens, died at his home on Saratoga street, yesterday afternoon at 5:30, after a long illness. Mr. Riddick was one of the pioneer residents of Suffolk. He was the son of the late Benjamin Riddick and Mrs. Eliza Porter Riddick. He was commissioner of revenue for Suffolk for 26 years, and for about 75 years an active member of the Methodist Church and for nearly half a century a member of the official board and was prominent in all the activities of his church. Mr. Riddick was an old member of Suffolk Lodge No. 30, A.F. and A.M., and for a great many years was secretary. Mr. Riddick is survived by one daughter, Miss Ellen Riddick, and a sister, Miss Lou Riddick. His wife, Mrs. Maud Pinner Riddick, died in 1927. He was an uncle of Luther Britt, of Norfolk; Ben R. Britt, of Clarksburg, W. Va.; Lee Britt and Henry S. Eley, Misses Lizzie, Dora and Louise Britt, Mrs. H.W. Campbell and Mrs. A.R. Myrick, all of Suffolk. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at the Main Street Methodist Church and will be conducted by Rev. H.E. Cromer, the pastor. Pallbearers are Lee Britt, L.R. Britt, Henry S. Eley, Theodore Myrick, Wood Campbell, Julian S. Lawrence, Thomas S. Lawrence, F.A. Holladay and Archibald Morgan. The official board of the Methodist Church and friends of the family will serve as honorary pallbearers. Masonic burial rites will be held at Cedar Hill cemetery, where the remains will be interred. ****************************************************************************** Archibald A. Riddick, Aged Citizen, Buried Yesterday Funeral Service For Widely Known Former Public Official Takes Place From Church of Which He Had Been a Member Since Childhood. Funeral services for the late Archibald Allen Riddick, prominent Suffolk citizen, were held yesterday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at Main Street Methodist Church, of which he had been an active member since youth and a member of the board of stewards for about 60 years. The services were conducted by the Rev. H.E. Cromer. The church choir sang, "How Firm A Foundation," and "Christian's Good Night," and a male quartette composed of A.B. Cramer, R.N. Baker, Walter McFall and Paul Van Valkenberg, sang, "Going Down the Valley." The casket was covered with a beautiful pall of calla lilies, with snapdragons, ferns and lilies of the valley, and there was a profusion of handsome floral offerings. Burial was in Cedar Hill cemetery, with the rites of the Masonic Lodge, of which Mr. Riddick had been a member for many years. Active pallbearers were Henry S. Eley, Luther and Lee Britt, W.T. Myrick, Dr. Wood Campbell, Thomas and Julian Lawrence, Frank Holladay and Archibald Morgan. The official board of the church and friends of the family acted as honorary pallbearers.
