RIDDICK, PHYSICIAN, DIES SUFFOLK, Oct. 19 - (AP) - Funeral services for Dr. Claudius James Riddick, 87, physician of Suffolk and Nansemond County for more than a half-century, who died Friday at his home here, will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Louis A. Haskell officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Dr. Riddick was a son of the late James Edward and Harriet D. Riddick of Nansemond County. He studied medicine at the University of Virginia as a member of the class of 1889 and was graduated from Bellevue Hospital Medical School in the class of 1890. In 1883, he married Miss Emily Swerson Wingfield, of Portsmouth, who died 11 years ago. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Hiram Lodge No. 340, A.F. & A.M. , Mount Horeb Royal Arch Chapter No. 11 of Portsmouth. He was formerly physician for Nansemond County and surgeon for the Virginian Railway, serving both until his retirement due to failing health. He was a member of the Seaboard Medical Society of Virginia and North Carolina, of the Medical Association of Virginia and of the Suffolk Deer Club. Surviving are a daughter, Miss Sue Wingfield Riddick, and a son, Claudius J. Riddick, Jr., both of Suffolk.
