RIDDICK A graveside service for George P. Riddick Sr., a retired commercial artist whose work appeared in national magazines, was held today in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Alma Ave. Mr. Riddick, 86, who had been retired from Commercial art since 1968, died of heart problems yesterday in a Kilmarnock hospital. He moved from Richmond to Kilmarnock 1½ years ago. A Suffolk native, he moved here and worked as an artist for Metropolitan Engraving Co. for about 20 years. He moved in 1943 to Roanoke, where he worked for Houck and Harrison Advertising until he retired. He later returned to Richmond. Since his retirement, he had been known for his fine arts works in oils and watercolors. Some of his favorite subjects included scenes for historic Richmond and Williamsburg and seascapes. Mr. Riddick never received formal training in art. "It just came naturally for him," a family member said. His work had appeared in advertising promotions along the East Coast and in such national magazine as House Beautiful, Better Homes and Gardens, and the Ladies Home Journal. Mr. Riddick was a former member of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and of Westminster Presbyterian Church here and was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Kilmarnock. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Cora Riddick; two sons, George P. Riddick, Jr. of Richmond and John Riddick of Powhatan; two daughters, Mrs. Audrey Penley and Mrs. Catherine Jones, both of Richmond; a sister, Mrs. H.A. Rawles of Suffolk; and six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
