Rhodes, 77, died this afternoon at 5:15 o’clock at his home near Myrtle. Mr. Rhodes had been ill for some time. He was a representative citizen of Nansemond County where he had resided all his life. Survivors include five daughters, Misses Anne, Margaret, Elizabeth and Sarah Rhodes of Nansemond County and Miss Bertha Rhodes, of Norfolk; two sons, J.E. Rhodes, Jr., of Norfolk, and E.C. Rhodes, of Carrsville; one sister, Mrs. Stella Holland of Holland; three brothers, J.L. Rhodes, of Chuckatuck; R.N. Rhodes, of Portsmouth, and J.H. Rhodes, of Edenton; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at Mt. Carmel Baptist [sic; Christian*] Church by the Rev. J. Sidney Cobb. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
