All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ WILLIS SMITH RIDDICK Suffolk, Dec. 6 - Willis Smith Riddick, 53, one of Suffolk's leading citizens and member of one of the city's and county's pioneer families, died this afternoon at 3:45 o'clock at his home on Bank Street after several months' failing health. He was the son of Mrs. Georgia Ferguson Riddick, who survives him, and the late John Ballentine Riddick, and was a lineal descendant of Col. Lemuel Riddick, who founded Suffolk 200 years ago. Mr. Riddick was widely known, especially in business circles interested in the lumber business, and at the time of his death was a member of the Farmville-Woodward Lumber Corporation, and was formerly associated with the Montgomery Lumber Company. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and was a Shriner and a member of Khedive Temple in Norfolk and also of Suffolk B.P.O Elks. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Ollie Liverman Riddick; a son, Lieut. Willis S. Riddick, IV, now stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., who was with his father at the time of his death, and his mother, Mrs. Georgia Ferguson Riddick. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church Monday afternoon, the hour having not yet been determined, and burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
