SUFFOLK - Retired U.S. Army Col. Willis Smith Riddick, Jr., 82, died Jan. 16, 1999. A native of Suffolk, he was the son of the late Annie Oliver Liverman and Willis Smith Riddick, Sr. Col. Riddick served in the Asiatic theater during World War II and received the following commendations; Bronze Star Medal with clasp, Army Commendation Ribbon, American Defense Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Citation with two bronze stars, Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal with two bronze stars. He also served with the Army of Occupation in Austria. He was a graduate of Suffolk High School, a 1939 graduate of Virginia Military Institute, a member of the Thomas Nelson Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and Cedar Point Country Club. Survivors include his wife, Cynthia James Riddick, a native of Old Bay Farm, Havre de Grace, Md.; and a son, James Willis Riddick of Greenville, S.C. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Cedar Hill Cemetery by the Rev. H. Vance Mann, III. Memorial donations may be made to the Gen. George C. Marshall Memorial Fund in care of Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va. 24450. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Col.
