All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JULIUS DIXON RAWLES Julius Dixon Rawles, 94, of 6729 Ruritan Blvd., Holland Station, a retired banker, died Sunday in his home. He was a native of Box Elder in Nansemond County and the husband of the late Louise Perry Rawles. He was the son of the late Julius T. Rawles and Mrs. Mary Dickson Holland Rawles. From 1906 to 1919, he was associated with the Bank of Holland, National Bank of Suffolk and Farmer’ Bank of Nansemond. In 1919, he returned to Holland and organized the Farmer’ Bank of Holland, which he served as cashier, vice president, president and chairman of the board. Because there were no lawyers in Holland at that time, he later said, he wrote deeds of trusts and wills and other legal documents and served as executor of many wills. He had served on various committees of the Virginia Banking Association and was a member of Holland United Church of Christ, a chapter member of Holland Ruritan Club, and a member of Holland Community House, serving as treasurer of each. He was also a member of Whaleyville Masonic Lodge, Suffolk Lions Club and Suffolk Elks Club; a member of the Nansemond Electoral Board for 50 years; and a former member of the county draft board. Survivors include a daughter, Mary R. Hutcheson of Alexandria; a sister, Mrs. J.T. Jones of Holland Station; two brothers Henry A. Rawles of Suffolk and Ernest L. Rawles of Holland Station; and a grandson. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Holland United Church of Christ by the Rev. Edwin R. Weidler. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery with R.W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home in charge. Memorial donations may be made to Holland United Church of Christ or a favorite charity. The family will be at his home. The body will be taken from the funeral home to the church at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
