Rawles and mother of Councilman-elect E.H. Rawles, died at her home in Holland this afternoon following an illness of one month's duration. Death came at 1 p.m. Mrs. Rawles was 71 years of age. Surviving Mrs. Rawles, besides her husband, are six sons and a daughter: Emmett H., Henry and Richard Rawles, of Suffolk; Sumner Rawles, of Holland; I.L. Rawles of Portsmouth; and Mrs. J.T. Jones of Holland. Also 11 grandchildren. Funeral arrangements have not been announced. Mrs Rawles formerly was Miss Mary Dixon Holland, daughter of the late Dixon and Mary Eliza Holland of Nansemond county. Mrs. Rawles was an active member of Holy Neck Christian church during her entire life. She was a leader in the church organizations, particularly the woman's auxiliary and mission societies. ****************************************************************************** MORTUARY MRS. MARY D. RAWLES Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Dixon Rawles, wife of J.T. Rawles, of Holland, and mother of Councilman-elect Emmett H. Rawles, Richard Rawles and Harry A. Rawles, of Suffolk, will be held at Holland Christian church Sunday at 4 p.m. The rites will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. N.G. Newman, assisted by Dr. W.M. Jay and Dr. John G. Truitt. Burial will be in Cedar Hill cemetery. In addition to her sons here, Mrs. Rawles is survived by four other sons, Sumner, Ernest L. and Jules [sic; Julius] D. Rawles, of Holland, I.R. [sic; I.L.] Rawles, of Portsmouth, and a daughter, Mrs. J.T. Jones, of Holland. ****************************************************************************** MARY DIXON SUMNER HOLLAND RAWLES SUFFOLK - June 14 - Mrs. Mary Dixon Sumner Rawles, 71 [sic*], wife of Julius T. Rawles, of Holland, died this afternoon at 1 o'clock, after an illness of four weeks. She was a member of an old Nansemond County family and was the daughter of Dixon H. Holland and Mary Eliza Sumner Holland. Besides her husband, J.T. Rawles, she is survived by seven sons, I.L. Rawles, of Portsmouth; Emmett H., Henry, and Richard Rawles, of Suffolk; Sumner, Ernest and Julius Rawles, of Holland; a daughter, Mrs. J.T. Jones, of Holland; one sister, Mrs. Rosa Councill, of Portsmouth, and a brother, Jethro Holland, of Holland; 11 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Rawles was until a few weeks ago an active member of Holy Neck Christian Church, and took part in all of the church work, and was a member of the women’s societies of the church. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock at Holland Christian Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. N.G. Newman, the Rev. Dr. W.M. Jay, of Holland, and the Rev. Dr. John G. Truitt, of Suffolk. The body will be brought to Suffolk for burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Mary Dixon Sumner (HOLLAND; Mrs. Julius T.)
