Mrs. Mary E. Rawls Is Laid To Rest 

MOTHER OF MRS. E. H. WILLIAMS OF SMITHFIELD DIES AT HOME IN SUFFOLK 

  Suffolk, Sept. 15. - Funeral services for the late Mrs. Mary Elizabeth 
Rawls, widow of Luther Rawls, an old prominent citizen of this community, 
were held last Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Holy Neck Christian Church, 
of which Mrs. Rawls was a member, conducted by the Rev. Dr. N.G. Newman, Rev. 
Dr. W.W. Staley, and Rev. H.S. Hardcastle. 

  The funeral procession left the home of Mrs. J.V. Gatling, Suffolk, Sunday 
afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. 

  There were many beautiful floral offerings. 

  The choir sang appropriate hymns.  Active pallbearers were Brock Darden, 
B.D. Jones, Jack Langston, Ross Jones, Hunter Darden, P. Jones, William Darden 
and Willie Darden.  Interment was in the church cemetery. 

  Mrs. Rawls was the mother of Mrs. E.H. Williams, of Smithfield, and her many 
friends here sympathize with her in her great bereavement.

Her husband (1835 - 1915) was a Confederate veteran, having served as 
   a private in Co. K, 41st VA Infantry.  Mary applied for a pension 
   20 Jul 1928.
