He retired in 1958 after more than 33 years with Farmer Bank of Nansemond, now Seaboard Citizens National Bank. A native of Nansemond County, he was a member of Suffolk Christian Church and its Baraca Class and American Legion Post 57. He was a Navy veteran of World War I. His parents were J.T. and Mrs. Holland Rawles of Holland. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Margaret Gill Rawles; a daughter, Mrs. R.W. Coyll of Satellite Beach, Fla.; a son, Richard Holland Rawles Jr. of Dallas, Tex.; a sister, Mrs. J.T. Jones of Holland; five brothers, Emmett H. Rawles and Henry A. Rawles of Suffolk, and Julian D. Rawles, Ernest L. Rawles, and Sumner Rawles of Holland; and four grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted Friday at 3:30 p.m. in Hill Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert B. Marr of Suffolk Christian Church. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
