He was the husband of Mrs. Emma Squire Rawles and so of the late Julius T. and Mary Dixon Holland Rawles. He was a member of the Holland Christian church, the Board of Deacons, and the Men’s Bible Class of the church. He belonged to the Holland Ruritan Club, and was a former member of the Town Council of Holland. He was the retired manager of the Holland Supply Co. and a retired member of the Board of Directors of the United Virginia - Seaboard National Bank. Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Nancy Rawles Grissom of Montgomery Village, MD.; one sister, Mrs. James Thomas Jones; three brothers, Julius D. Rawles, Henry A. Rawles, and Ernest L. Rawles all of Suffolk; two grandsons. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Sidney F. Harrell Funeral Home by Dr. Jackie L. Crater with burial in Holland Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial be made to the Holland Christian Church building fund or the Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue Squad.
