All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ VANCE SPIVEY RITES ARE HELD Crash Victim Buried At Cedar Hill, Rites At Baptist Church Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon for Elmer Vance Spivey, 23, at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. H.J. Goodwin and the Rev. R.E. Brittle conducting the rites. Interment was in the Cedar Hill cemetery. Mr. Spivey was killed in an automobile accident near Magnolia Tuesday morning. A quartet composed of Mrs. L.I. Haggard, Mrs. Paul Rawles, J.N. Alexander, and William J. Work, accompanied by Mrs. Work at the piano, sang "Some Day the Silver Cord Will Break" and "Does Jesus Care." Mr. Work sang a solo, "In the Land of Fadeless Day." A pall of pink roses and Easter lilies covered the casket and there were many beautiful floral offerings. Active pallbearers were: Roy Mizelle, Owen Parker, Irving Murden, Eugene Emory, William Howell, Marvin Stephenson, Rawles Privott, and James Boykin. Members of the Young Men's Bible Class of the First Baptist Church, of which Mr. Spivey was a member, were honorary pallbearers. His father was murdered 11 Dec 1939 in his store in Suffolk during a robbery.
