LEROY SOPER, RETIRED SURGEON SUFFOLK - Dr. Leroy Dilmore Soper, 91, of 1417 Planters Drive, a native of Catlin, N.Y., died Monday in a hospital. He had retired in 1949 from the Army medical corps as a colonel, having served in both world wars as a surgeon. He was awarded the Bronze Star in France during World War II. Soper was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association and Hiriam Masonic Lodge 340. He was a graduate of the University of Vermont. Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Cecil Soper; two sons Robert A. Soper of Edenbury, Texas, and Leroy D. Soper of Sanford, Fla.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The graveside service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Holly Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. James A. Newsom. R.W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home is in charge. The family will be at the residence. Memorial donations may be sent to the Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue Squad or to the Altar Guild of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
