(Special to Virginian-Pilot) Suffolk, Va., March 1. - [...] CITIZEN DEAD. John Shepherd died early this morning at his home on North street, 62 years old. The cause was paralysis, from which he had suffered for several years. The funeral will take place at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon from the Methodist church. The deceased leaves a widow, whose maiden name was Rebecca Brinkley; three daughters and two sons - John L. and Joseph Shepherd, and Mrs. Chas. W. Holladay, all of Suffolk; Mrs. Robert Holladay, Isle of Wight county, and Gertrude Shepherd, of Suffolk. Mr. Shepherd was a good and peaceful citizen. We do not have any details of his Confederate service. He is not identical with the John SHEPHERD in Co. E, 5th VA Infantry. He was the son of Thomas & Elizabeth SHEPHERD. He 1m. Nancy Ellen MOODY 8 Apr 1858 in Isle of Wight Co. Widowed, he married Jane Rebecca BRINKLEY 12 Oct 1882 in Norfolk.
