The daughter of William G. and Elizabeth Williford Stephenson, Miss Stephenson was widely known throughout Southampton County, where she lived until advancing years made it necessary for her to have constant hospital care. She was a member of Millfield Baptist Church. She often told in her reminiscences of the coming into use of the things which are commonplace today, the sewing machine, the railroads, the electric light, telephone and later radio, airplane and automobile. She was one of a family of 16 children, of which she was the sole survivor. A number of nephews and nieces survive her, among them Percy S. Stephenson and Gordon Stephenson of Norfolk; J.B. Stephenson of Berlin; W.G. Stephenson of Columbia, Mo.; R.T. Stephenson of Abingdon; J.W. Stephenson of Richmond; Judson Stephenson of New York, and Mrs. R.W. Adkins. Funeral services were conducted at the grave at Unity Monday afternoon at 4 o’clock by the Rev. R.D. Stephenson of Franklin Baptist Church.
