HOLLOWELL TWINE SITTERSON Mrs. Martha Hollowell Sitterson, aged 63, wife of Bertha [sic; Belitha] J. Sitterson, died at a local hospital last night at 11:55 o'clock. Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. George Beasley, of New York; a son, Horace V. Twine, of Fayetteville, N.C.; a sister, Mrs. J.T. Eason, of Edenton, N.C., and a grandchild. Mrs. Sitterson was a native of Chowan County, N.C., and had been a resident of Suffolk and Norfolk for 30 years. She was a member of the Park Avenue Baptist Church and resided at 1725 Willoughby avenue. The body was taken to the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home pending funeral arrangements. ****************************************************************************** Funerals [...] Mrs. Martha Hollowell Sitterson. - The body of Mrs. Sitterson will be taken from the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home to the First Baptist Church, Suffolk, for funeral services tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock. Sitterson. whose death occurred Saturday night at a Norfolk hospital, will be conducted Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock at the First Baptist Church. Though a civilian, her father was held as a POW by the Federals; he was released from Ft. Monroe 13 Dec 1863. He d. by 25 May 1883, when her mother was allowed a year's provisions from his estate. (Chowan Co., NC, Wills and Estate Papers) She 1m. Elisha D. TWINE (1845 - 1910) 22 Aug 1883 in Chowan Co., NC. He is buried at the Elisha D. Twine Gravesite, Ryland, Chowan Co., NC. The 1900 Census - Upper Dist., Chowan Co., NC - gives b. Oct 1870. She 2m. widower Belitha J. SITTERSON 6 Feb 1912; the Suffolk M.Reg. (#10) gives b. Gates Co., NC, and her father as I. or J.T. The 1930 Census - Brooklyn, Kings Co., NY - gives age 47.
