All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Rites Held Yesterday For Robert Stewart Funeral services for Robert Edmond Stewart, who died Monday night at his home on Delaware Avenue after a long illness, were held yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the R.W. Baker Funeral Home. The Rev. L.T. Saunders, Jr., of Crozet, Va., assisted by the Rev. J.S. Orrell, pastor of the Ivor Baptist Church, conducted the service. Interment followed in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Mrs. Vernon Holland, Mrs. Archie Smither, S.W. Powell and A.L. Grant, accompanied by Mrs. W.F. Whitley, sang "It Is Well With My Soul" and "Lead Me Gently Home, Father." The Rev. Orrell read the poem "Blessed Assurance." The pall was of white roses and fern. Active pallbearers were R. Causey Luke, Byron T. Cutchin, Sr., J.W. Camp, F.T. Joyner, Russell West, L.R. Bracey, C.M. Ramsey and L.T. Saunders. Honorary pallbearers were members of the board of deacons of the Ivor Baptist Church. ****************************************************************************** ROBERT EDMOND STEWART Robert Edmond Stewart, 78, retired Ivor merchant, died at the home in Suffolk of his son, Robert E. Stewart, Jr., on Monday night, December 15, after a long illness. He was in the mercantile business at Ivor, retiring 10 years ago. Before that he was employed by the John L. Roper Lumber Company at Gilmerton and by the Shaw Land and Timber Company at Ivor. He was a member of the Ivor Baptist Church, superintendent of its Sunday school, and chairman of its board of deacons. A son of the late Solomon and Mary DeFord Stewart of Norfolk County, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ethel Harrell Stewart of Suffolk; three daughters, Mrs. Elsie Dietz of Atlanta, Ga., Mrs. C. Pembroke Pettit of Fredericks Hall, and Mrs. W.S. Beamon, Jr., of Suffolk; one son, Robert E. Stewart, Jr., of Suffolk; six grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Minnie Culpepper of Northwest. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Baker Funeral Home, Suffolk, by Rev. L.T. Saunders, Jr., of Crozet, and Rev. J.S. Orrell, pastor of Ivor Baptist Church. Burial was in Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk. Members of the board of deacons of Ivor Baptist Church served as honorary pallbearers. Active pallbearers were L.R. Bracey, J.W. Camp, Byron Cutchin, Floyd T. Joyner, E. Causey Luke, C.M. Ramsey, L.T. Saunders and Russell West.
