Sullivan, of Crittenden, missing a week ago today from a boat on the Nansemond River. A U.S. Coast Guard official at Berkley said last night that the "all-out" search which has been conducted for several days has now been abandoned. Only the patrols now on their normal duty in the area will continue to keep a lookout for the missing man, a duty officer at the station said. Sullivan was last seen when he left his home, near the Nansemond River bridge with his dog in an outboard-motor-driven boat last Sunday evening. At that time, according to his wife, he had intended to cross the river via Blinkhorn Point and later report to work with the Masonry and Resurfacing Contracting Co. near the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel project. The boat, containing only Sullivan's dog and equipment he had carried, was found the next day by two tunnel workers. Sullivan's wife later identified the boat and re-claimed the dog. Despite a concentrated search by all available boats and a helicopter, no trace of the missing man was found and the Coast Guard decided to call off the extended effort. ****************************************************************************** Body of Man Missing 4 Months Recovered The body of a Crittenden man, missing since he disappeared from a fishing boat four months ago, was found floating in Hampton Roads yesterday by a fishing boat captain. The victim, Craig Warren Sullivan, 36, "evidently fell overboard and accidentally drowned," State medical examiner Dr. Paul Parker of Hampton, said today. Hampton police and Sullivan's wife positively identified the body, recovered about one mile from the shore halfway between Newport News and Hampton. Sullivan had been reported missing since a 12-foot outboard motorboat he launched from the Nansemond River Bridge to go duck hunting was found adrift with only a brown cocker he had taken for company in it. After the boat was found flating near Fort Monroe on November 28, the Coast Guard conducted a week-long search which proved fruitless. Sullivan was employed by the Masonry and Resurfacing Contracting Company, engaged in work on the Newport News end of the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. He was born on October 29, 1919 in Monroe, La., and lived for some time in Azusa, Calif., the home of his wife. The body will be taken to Azusa for burial. Arrangements are incomplete. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, 14, a daughter, 10, and his father, Ted R. Sullivan, of Crittenden.
