All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ George Simpson's Funeral Tomorrow Funeral services for George Washington Simpson will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at Oakland Christian Church by Dr. H.S. Hardcastle, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be taken from the Baker Funeral Home to the church to lie in state one hour prior to services. Members of the Men's Bible Class of Oakland Christian Church are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers. Mr. Simpson, 78, died at his home in Nansemond County Thursday at 3 p.m. after a long illness. A retired farmer, he was the son of the late Thomas V. and Isabell Markham Simpson and was a member of Oakland Christian Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Emma Thornton Simpson; five sons, Thomas V. Simpson and William B. Simpson, both of Nansemond County; Lee Ralph Simpton of Portsmouth; T. Thornton Simpson of Newport News and O. Carlton Simpson of Suffolk; four daughters, Mrs. Edna Eure of Hertford, N.C.; Mrs. Effie White of South Norfolk; Miss Esther Simpson of Newport News, and Mrs. Ruth Mattox of St. Petersburg, Fla.; l6 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one brother, W.W. Simpson of Elizabeth City, N.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Lula Meads and Mrs Maggie Cartwright, both of Elizabeth City, and several nieces and nephews.
