SMITH Courtney Thomas Smith, 55, a resident of 132½ Chestnut St., died at 6:30 p.m. Sunday in a Petersburg hospital. He was a retired Norfolk Naval Shipyard crane operator and was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church. He was a son of the late John Thomas and Mrs. Virtlie Barnes Smith and the husband of Mrs. Ruth Riddick Smith. Surviving, besides his wife, are two daughters, Mrs. Chester Keeling Riddick of Suffolk and Miss Jacquelyn Smith of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one sister, Mrs. Helen Mizelle of Newport News; three brothers, Godwin Smith and William Smith, both of Norfolk, and Curtis Smith of Suffolk. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in R.W. Baker & Company Funeral Home, conducted by Dr. R.E. Brittle, pastor of Hunterdale Christian Church, and the Rev. K. Donald Berg, pastor of First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Holly Lawn [sic; Cedar Hill] Cemetery.
