Mrs. Martha Smith Dies in Nansemond 

  Mrs. Martha L. Smith, widow of George L. Smith, died last night at 8:30 
o'clock at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. J.J. Ralph, near Liberty 
Spring Church.  She is survived also by three sons, W.E. Smith, of Franklin, 
and R.M. and George E. Smith, both of Suffolk; four grandchildren, and one 
brother, R.E. Griffin, of Whaleyville. 

  Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at 
the residence.  Dr. I.W. Johnson, assisted by the Rev. R.E. Brittle, will 
officiate.  Burial will be in Liberty Spring cemetery.
