HUNDREDS AT FUNERAL OF CAPT. OTIS S. SMITH, JR. 

  Suffolk, - Jan. 31 - Hundreds of people today attended the funeral services 
for Capt. Otis S. Smith, Jr., member of the firm of Ballard & Smith, World War 
Veteran, and former mayor of Suffolk.  Services were conducted at the funeral 
home of I.O. Hill & Company by Dr. John G. Truitt, pastor of the Suffolk 
Christian Church in which Captain Smith held membership and was an active 
worker.  During the services, Dr. Truitt read the hymns, "Lord As to Thy Dear 
Cross I Cling", and "There's a Wideness in God's Mercy".

wound said to have been self-inflicted.

   Parker Smith, dt/o James A. & Lucy (Custen) Parker.  She shares a headstone 
   with her husband - pictured with their Memorials - which reads Lunie.
