SMITH Funeral services for Paul Napoleon Smith, 82 [sic; 83], of the Liberty Spring community, were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the grave in the Liberty Spring Church cemetery by the Rev. H. Raymond Phelts, pastor. Mr. Smith, a retired automobile painter, died at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Louise Obici Memorial Hospital after a long illness. A native of Nansemond County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Gertie Rawls Smith and son of the late George L. and Mrs. Martha Griffin Smith. He was a member of the Liberty Spring Christian Church. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Dillard Spivey of the Liberty Spring community. Pallbearers were James J. Powell, Conrad Barnes, James H. Barnes, Presley Duke, Fulmer Eason, Joseph A. Savage, J.W. Bradshaw and Will Roy Salmon. I.O. Hill & Co. Funeral Home was in charge of the service.
