SUSAN SMITH Died in Suffolk, on the 29th January last [1845?*], Mrs. Susan Smith, wife of Arthur Smith, of that place. Sister Smith was the daughter of Archibald and Christian Richardson, who were residents of Suffolk, in the memorial year of 1780. In that year, while her father was absent with the American Army, the British Army succeeded in burning the town of Suffolk. Mr. Richardson’s family fled for safety to the adjoining state of North Carolina, where his daughter Susan was born. As soon as her father could re-build his house, he returned with his family to Suffolk, where Sister Smith resided to the time of her death. She lived a stranger to the converting grace of God, seeking her happiness in the pleasures of the world, until the revival of religion, which commenced in Suffolk the latter part of the year 1822 - on the 27th of May, 1826, she attached herself to the M.E. Church, in Suffolk, of which she continued an acceptable member to the time of her death. The Wednesday before her death she met with the sewing society of Suffolk, of which she was a member, and appeared to be in usual health, but so uncertain is life. The next Wednesday her funeral was preached in the same room. Sister Smith has left an affectionate husband, a son and two daughters to lament their loss- A.E.S.
