SMITH Was Buried In Cedar Hill SUFFOLK, Aug 11. - Funeral services for Mrs. Virtley Barnes Smith were conducted at 4 p.m. yesterday at the R.W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home by Rev. H.L. Foster and Rev. R.E. Brittle. Rev. Foster read the poem, "There Is No Death," and a quartet, composed of Mrs. Milton Johnson, Mrs. Paul Rawles, T. Byron Cutchin and Rev. Charles W. Jones, sang, "Silently The Shades Of Evening" and "Rock of Ages." Rev. Jones sang a solo, "Sunrise." The casket was covered with a pall of lilies, red roses and baby's breath. Active pallbearers were the following sons and sons-in-laws: Courtney Smith, Curtis B. Smith, William A. Smith, Godwin D. Smith, S.J. Smith, Jr., F.W. Mizelle, J.S. Timberlake, Jr., and D.F. Joyner. Friends of the family served as honorary pallbearers and burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Her father Isaac Pipkin BARNES (1844 - 1878) was a Confederate veteran, having served as 3rd Sgt. in Co. F, 61st VA Infantry.
