SAUNDERS Mrs. Anna Mary Carter Saunders, 49, died Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at Maryview Hospital, Portsmouth after a week’s illness. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at the Hill Funeral Home by the Rev. R.E. Brittle, pastor of Bethlehem Christian Church. Burial will be in the Saunders family cemetery in Nansemond County. Mrs. Saunders and her husband, Ray Jerome Saunders operated the Saunders Corner Grocery Story on East Washington St. A member of Bethlehem Christian Church and a charter member of the Barrett Circle of the Woman’s Fellowship of the church, she was the daughter of the late John Jefferson Carter and Mrs. Nancy Lillian Holland Carter of Nansemond County. Beside her husband who lived at Route 3, Suffolk she is survived by her step-mother, Mrs. Mary Sue Carter of Nansemond County; a sister, Mrs. Harry Jennings of Portsmouth and a brother Amos Carter of Oak Ridge, Nansemond County.
