SAUNDERS SUCCUMBS AT 67 Job Randolph Saunders, prominent Suffolk lawyer, died at Louise Obici Hospital at 7:15 this morning at the age of 67. He was taken seriously ill last night at his home, 800 Riverview Drive. He was the son of the late James R. Saunders and Ida Brinkley Saunders of Nansemond county. Saunders is survived by his wife, Mrs. Naomi K. Saunders, of Suffolk; one brother, Ray J. Saunders of Nansemond county; three nephews, James H. Saunders, Floyd Harrell of Suffolk and Cecil Harrell of Newport News; and six nieces, Mrs. Oscar Smith of Nansemond County, Mrs. Connie Quessenberry of Coburn, Mrs. Bernard Gayle of Isle of Wight, Mrs. William Larmar of Suffolk; Mrs. Fred Basque of Herlong, Calif., and Mrs. Jake Forbes of Puerto Rico. Saunders attended Professor Starke’s School in Suffolk and was graduated from Washington and Lee University with a law degree in 1911. That same year he started a law practice in Suffolk and within a period of a few years formed the law firm of Saunders and Hutton. The firm dissolved in 1941 when Hutton was appointed circuit court judge for Nansemond County. Saunders had practiced law in Suffolk for 44 years. He was a member and past president of the Suffolk Bar Association, a member of the Virginia Bar Association, a past president of the Lions Club, member of the Elks Club and a member of the Suffolk Christian Church. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the R.W. Baker and Company Funeral Home by Rev. Julian S. Hopkins and Rev. George D. Alley. Members of the Suffolk Bar Association are requested to serve as honorary pallbearers.
