All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ CHARLES FRANCIS SIMMONS FRANKLIN, May 4 - Charles Francis Simmons, 70, died this afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Otis Smith, after an illness of a few weeks. Mrs. Simmons was the son of the late Francis Alexander and Alice Cannon Simmons, of North Carolina and husband of the late Annie White Simmons. He was a Spanish-American War veteran, enlisting with Company B, First Regiment of North Carolina Infantry Volunteers on April 27, 1898. Besides his daughter, he is survived by two sons, Beverly Simmons, of Franklin, and Randolph Simmons, of Holland; three sisters, Mrs. A.V. Smith and Miss Mayne Simmons, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mrs. Kate Hinely, of Arizona; two sons [sic; brothers], Alexander and Robert Simmons, of Jacksonville, Fla.; one granddaughter, Mary Hope Simmons, of Franklin. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 4 p.m. in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk, by the Rev. R.D. Stephenson. He is buried in Maplewood Cemetery, Mount Olive, Wayne Co., NC.
