He had been a resident of the "Panhandle" of the county. He had been a member of the school board for a great many years. The plantation on which he lived, from the best data available, having been in the family since colonial days. His ancestors at one time were members of the Quakers and one John Simons was fined for his faith, later they became Baptists, and the oldest church of that denomination in the county was erected near the old homestead, his mother for a great many years keeping the old church bible at her home, and taking it to the church each time for the services. Joshua SIMONS, d. 21 Jul 1892, age 77, interred in Simons Cemetery*, Simons Dr., near Western Branch Baptist Church, donated obit, publication unknown *Nansemond Co.
