TAYLOR PORTSMOUTH -- Claude Hobson (Buck) Taylor, 62, died at 2:45 a.m. today in a Portsmouth hospital. He lived in the Governor Dinwiddie Hotel. A native of Suffolk, he was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He was employed at Hall's Bakery in Portsmouth for 38 years. He was the son of William Henry and Mrs. Etta Duke Taylor. Surviving him are three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Taylor Walton of Richmond, Mrs. William H. Johnson and Miss Etta Taylor, both of Suffolk. A funeral service will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at the graveside in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The Rev. James H. Newsome, rector of St. Paul's Church, will officiate. The funeral procession will leave I.O. Hill Funeral Home at 1:45 p.m. Monday for the cemetery. The family will be at the home of Mrs. William H. His WW-II draft card gives Claud, b. 5 Jan 1907. His parents are buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk - Block P, Lot 46. I, 68th VA Infantry. His mother applied for a pension May 31, 1928. His maternal grandfather Parker DUKE (ca. 1840 - 1896) also was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in Co. I, 61st VA Infantry. His widow Elizabeth "Bettie" (RAWLS) DUKE (1837 - 1917) applied for a pension September 4, 1908. They were buried in a family cemetery on Hosier Rd., but later moved to Holly Lawn Cemetery.
