TAYLOR PRUDEN TAYLOR Suffolk, Va., July 27. - (Special.) - [...] LEAVES THIRTY-NINE DESCENDANTS. After having been kept a prisoner in her room for seven years by injuries resulting from a fall, Mrs. Sallie Taylor, of Nansemond county, is dead. She would have been 86 years old on August 22. The funeral took place at 3 o'clock this afternoon from Bethlehem Christian church and was conducted by Rev. I.W. Johnson. The following grandchildren of the deceased were pall-bearers: W.J. Joyner, R.H. Joyner, J.E. Joyner, J.B. Joyner, John R. Joyner and J.W. Hargrove. The deceased had been twice married. She is survived by thirty-nine descendants - three daughters, each of whom married a Mr. Joyner; one son, A.T. [sic; H.T.] Taylor; seventeen grandchildren and eighteen great- grandchildren. Her last husband, Wilson Taylor, died soon after the Civil war. The deceased had been a member of Bethlehem Christian church for upwards of fifty years. ****************************************************************************** Among Churches and People. [...] Mrs. Sallie Taylor was born in Nansemond county, Va., August 22, 1819, and died July 25, 1905, aged 85 years, 11 months aud 3 days. She was twice married. Her first husband was James M. Pruden. Unto them were born four children, Margaret J., Nancy N., Martha J., and Betsy. Mr. Pruden and Betsey died several years ago. By a second marriage she was united to Mr. Wilson Taylor, who died soon after the civil war. Unto them A.T. [sic; H.T.] and Carena Taylor were born. Carena is dead. Mr. A.T. Taylor married Miss Eudora Monell. Sister Taylor had been a member of Bethlehem Christian Church for more than 50 years and was known for her faithfulness to the church of her choice. She leaves to mourn their loss 4 children, 17 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Her funeral was conducted from Bethlehem Church at 3 o'clock p.m. July 27 by the writer. Her pastor, Rev. H.H. Butler, could not be present on account of a protracted meeting at Cypress Chapel. The following were the pall bearers: W.J. Joyner, R.H. Joyner, J.E. Joyner, J.B. Joyner, John R. Joyner, and J.V. She was the daughter of Jethro & Edith "Eady" TAYLOR. Her family appears in the 1850 Census in Nansemond Co. - her first husband age 34, Sallie, 29. The Nansemond Co. D.Reg. 1853 seems to confuse these 2 decedents: #68 James PRUDEN, d. 10 Feb, of Rising in Mouth, age 54, son of John & ___ PRUDEN; consort of Sarah PRUDEN; reported by Sarah PRUDEN, widow #69 James M. PRUDEN, d. 30 Jan, Killed by a Tree, age 37, son of Wm. & Eliza. PRUDEN; consort of Margaret PRUDEN; reported by Margaret PRUDEN, widow Her second husband served as a private in Co. E, 6th VA Infantry. He was shot in the body & right arm during a skirmish shortly before the Battle of Seven Pines. Sarah was approved for a pension 15 May 1888. The 1870 Census - Chuckatuck Dist., Nansemond Co. - gives age 50; she was enumerated with Wilson's children Henry, 17, & Karena, 12. The 1900 Census - Chuckatuck Dist., Nansemond Co. - gives b. Feb 1885; she was enumerated with family of her daughter Nancy Monroe (PRUDEN; Mrs. Josiah) JOYNER.
