Death of Mr. John W. Turlington, an Octogenarian. Honor Rolls of the Public Schools - A Colored Man Wounded in the Face - Two Marriages - Candidates For Superintendent of Schools - Other Items. (Special to Virginian-Pilot) Suffolk, Va., Nov. 27. - Mr. John W. Turlington, a very venerable citizen of Nansemond county, died to-day at his home, about four miles from Suffolk, 82 years old. He had been in feeble health for several months. The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock to-morrow from Bethlehem Christian church. The deceased leaves a widow, three daughters, Mrs. Ann E. Parker and Mrs. Jesse Rawles, of Suffolk, and Miss Alice Turlington, of the county, and one son, Richard H. Turlington, of the county. The decedent was the grandfather of R. Turlington took place at 2 o'clock this afternoon from Bethlehem Christian Church, in Nansemond County, and was conducted by Rev. H.H. Butler. Six deacons of the church acted as pallbearers. There was a masonic ceremony. John William TURLINGTON, farmer, Confederate veteran, b. Birthdate from 1900 Census - Holy Neck Dist., Nansemond Co. He served a few months in the militia at the start of the Civil War. His wife's half-brother Dempsey KNIGHT, Jr., served as a private in Co. B, 5th NC Infantry; he was wounded & captured at Gettysburg and died of his wounds a week later.
