Thornton, a former resident of Suffolk, died Friday night at the McGuire Hospital in Richmond. While he lived in Suffolk he was active in the work of the American Legion, Post 57, of which be was a charter member and was engaged in the real estate business. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. R.A. Doty, of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Mrs. Theodore W. Austin, of Fayetteville, N.C.; two brothers, H. Vivian Thornton, of Courtland, and Ashton Thornton, of Huntington, W.Va.; three sisters, Mrs. Edwin Harrison and Mrs. Ila Carroll, of Baltimore, and Mrs. Alton Bargar, of Buena Vista, Va. The body is now at the I.O. Hill and Company Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements are pending. ****************************************************************************** Funeral Tuesday For Hiram C. Thornton Funeral services for Hiram C. Thornton, a former resident of Suffolk who died Friday at the McGuire Hospital, Richmond, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the I.O. Hill and Company Funeral Home. The Rev. J.S. Gresham, pastor of the Oxford Methodist Church, will conduct the services. Burial will take place in the Cedar Hill Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** HIRAM C. THORNTON Hiram C. Thornton of Suffolk, farmer and real estate man, died in the McGuire Veterans Hospital, Richmond, on Friday night, March 13. The deceased was a former resident of Franklin, having been for some years in the employ of Vaughan & Company, Bankers. From Franklin he moved to Suffolk, where he was active in the business life of Suffolk for many years. He was a charter member of Suffolk’s American Legion Post 57. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. R.A. Doty of Little Rock, Ark., and Mrs. Theodore Austin of Fayetteville, N.C.; two brothers, H. Vivian Thornton of Courtland and Ashton Thornton of Huntington, W.Va.; three sisters, Mrs. Edwin Harrison and Mrs. Ila Carroll of Baltimore, Md., and Mrs. Alton Barger of Buena Vista; and several grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Hill Funeral Home, Suffolk, by Rev. Joseph S. Gresham, pastor of Oxford Methodist Church. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
